The current practice of Kopp and Bloom D.D.S. has a rich history serving generations in McHenry county with it’s foundation going back to the 1920’s. In 1926 Dr. Leonard Metcalf started the practice on Calhoun Street in Woodstock. In 1961 the practice transitioned to Dr. Robert Becker. The 1970’s brought growth and Dr. Becker expanded the practice to include bringing in a new dentist as partner, Dr. Joseph Frazier. Both Dr. Becker and Dr. Frazier were involved in numerous social and civic organizations throughout McHenry county and the surrounding area.
In 1980 a decision was made to open a second office in Marengo to meet the needs of a growing practice and support both communities. In 1986 Dr. Becker retired and in 1990 Dr. Frazier moved the practice to it’s current location in Crystal Lake in the College Hill Professional Building on Route 31 in Crystal Lake. This location was more centrally located for serving the dental needs of his patients. As an added benefit, It placed the practice in the same building with other talented specialists. Dr. Frazier and his family were actively involved in numerous school, church and philanthropic organizations within the community of Crystal Lake. His gentle clinical skills and warm personality attracted many new friends and patients.
Dr. Thomas Kopp joined the practice in 1994. Dr. Kopp expanded the practice by adding evenings and weekends and growth continued with new patients and families. In 2008, as Dr. Frazier was preparing for retirement, they brought Dr. Kopp’s longtime friend and colleague Dr. John Bloom into the practice. Dr. Frazier and Dr. Kopp knew that Dr. Bloom’s professionalism and style would be an excellent fit to continue the practice’s legacy.
Since its beginning, the philosophy of gentle, caring, quality dentistry has brought patients representing multiple generations of families into the practice. That special legacy of lasting relationships has been the foundation of the practice. Each of these doctors, when passing the torch, carefully and thoughtfully selected their associates and successors. It has been a priority and source of pride for each of them to continue the high level of dedication and compassion to the patients. Dr. Kopp and Dr. Bloom look forward to the future and are committed to providing the best dentistry possible.
